All waste and recycling collections in Cheltenham remain suspended today (December 14) for safety reasons.
Following the heavy snowfall over the weekend and continued freezing conditions, the household recycling centre on Swindon Road also remains closed.
Main roads are clear, but many side roads and most pavements remain icy, making it too unsafe to risk 26 tonne refuse vehicles sliding on the ice or staff slipping on the ice whilst making collections.
Residents are asked to put their recycling boxes, food caddies and bins out on their normal scheduled collection day and leave them out. As soon as conditions are safe enough, collection crews will collect as soon as possible.
The council would be grateful if residents could try to unfreeze their bins, recycling boxes and food caddies to help the crews.
Over the weekend and yesterday, street cleansing teams prioritised clearing snow and ice in the town centre and high footfall areas in the borough. The entrances to all town centre car parks were also treated with salt.
The council advises residents to check the Cheltenham Borough Council website and social media channels regularly to get the latest advice on bin collections and the opening of the household recycling centre.
