What a night!… Cirencester Community Awards 2023

A fantastic crowd of people gathered at the Kings Head Hotel on Wednesday 11th October to celebrate the many organisations, community groups, charities and individuals who contribute so much to our local community.

The Cirencester Community Awards initiative came about as a result of the vision of two organisations, Cirencester Radio and CCDT (Cirencester Community Development Trust) who wanted to bring the community together to say “thank you” to everyone who supports our fantastic town. The awards were launched in August with community organisations or charities of any size encouraged to nominate themselves or others for one of three categories demonstrating the breadth of community support: Team, Sustainability, and Innovation. There was also a special award for an individual to become a Cirencester Champion.

Cirencester Radio Director, Dan Woodward was MC for the evening.

David Fowles from CCDT said, “Businesses were also keen to use the opportunity to showcase how exceptional Cirencester is and they showed their support for the community by designing the logo (Short Story Ventures), creating the physical award (Christopher Stanley Architecture) or sponsoring one of the awards”. (Sustainability Award sponsored by Lake 32; Innovation Award sponsored by the numbercrunchers; Team Award sponsored by Rapido Security; Champion Award sponsored by CJ Hole).

There was great excitement and an air of expectancy as close to 100 guests gathered on the night for a welcome glass of Prosecco and canape supplied by the team at the Kings Head Hotel with fabulous entertainment from Arc Magic. Then, suddenly a hush descended as everyone stood to welcome His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie who, as the King’s representative, had accepted our invitation to present the awards – all captured by our photographer, Adrian McPherson.

Carole Boydell, Chair of Cirencester Radio said “There were so many ways in which local people showed how much they value and support their community. From our main sponsor of the evening, RCH100 to the host of businesses who generously gave their time and expertise, it was an honour to bring everyone together to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in the community, business and civic sectors. We were delighted to receive so much positive feedback after the event from organisations who, as well as having a great time, had made new contacts – and caught up with old friends. Get ready for Cirencester Community Awards 2024!”
